“AVATAR”: The Post Production Team Reveals The True Story |
It’s become synonymous with "game changer"; it’s breaking records seemingly on a daily basis; it’s set new standards not just for 3D but for moviemaking in general. It’s launched thoughtful conversations among film professionals and the movie-going public alike.
“AVATAR” was the single-minded passion of director James Cameron for many years – well before the technology existed to bring it to screen. Filmmaking had to evolve over time in order to catch up with his vision. Even with advancements in motion capture, 3D and other enabling technologies (including the Fusion and Simulcam camera systems), Cameron had to push extremely hard on emerging technology to tell his story. While it was his vision that drove the film, an undertaking of this magnitude was ultimately in the hands of a number of highly gifted, and dedicated artists who brought Pandora, its heroes and antagonists to life. From dailies and the editing room through the complex visual effects, 3D and DI, “AVATAR” bent, broke, and then rewrote the rule book.
On February 18th at Universal Hilton, Createasphere is proud to present a conversation with key members of “AVATAR” post production team. This is a rare opportunity to hear from major participants in the behind the scenes tale of “AVATAR”
John Refuoa, ACE, Editor
Steven Rivkin, ACE, Editor
Joyce Cox, Visual Effects Producer
Janace Tashjian, Associate Producer
Chris Marino, Visual Effects Editor
Skip Kimball, DI Colorist
Dan Restuccio, West Coast Editor of Post Magazine - moderator
When “AVATAR” premiered in December, 2009, it was rapidly apparent that a global audience believed that the signficant pre-release buzz was worth it. Register here for a chance to take a peek behind the curtain and see the entire post process that brought "AVATAR” to life.
'AVATAR' INTRODUCES A NEW ERA IN FILMMAKING
Daniel Restuccio
HOLLYWOOD - After years in the making and hundreds of millions of dollars spent, James Cameron’s dream of taking filmmaking to the next level has become a reality. The individual components of Avatar - adventure/love story, visual effects, motion capture technology and 3D have all existed before, but arguably, this is the first time these elements have been so deftly integrated in this way. And never has such an epic ambition been so singularly controlled by one man’s individual vision.
