HD EXPO was launched in 2001 at the dawn of High Definition. The industry was betting heavily on HD to power creative and technical operations yet there was deep concern about how it would impact the industry and careers. It was clear that everyone needed accessible, insightful information. By dint of my own curiosity and the luck of timing, HD EXPO appeared at the right moment to help the burgeoning High Definition community answer the questions that kept them up at night.
But in the ensuing eight years, those questions have changed. We have changed too, so that we can continue to offer new insights. This month, after a year and a half transition, HD EXPO transforms to Createasphere, expanding from a single-technology trade show to an organization championing the broader needs and interests of global content creators.
We have taken this step because all of us are playing and working in dynamic times. Multiple, fundamental changes are afoot and real game-changing technologies are part of our landscape. 3D; anytime-anywhere content; new cameras; asset management tools; changing models of theatrical and content distribution; collaborative technologies and social media are having an immense impact on the entertainment and media industries. The work, jobs and companies are changing quickly and there is no slowdown in sight. In response, CREATEASPHERE is opening its doors to a broad-based series of offerings that speak directly to a global creative community.
I am proud to announce a series of offerings that include education, conferences and trade shows for the coming year. For over 8 years, HD EXPO established itself as an outstanding place to learn and network with your peers, colleagues and sometimes with your idols. As we head into 2010, these highly regarded entertainment-technology events in LA and New York will continue to present a breadth of high caliber presentations, community-building and exhibition that HD EXPO is known and respected for. Please plan on joining us for a full calendar of Createasphere/CONNECT events, smaller evening gatherings in LA, NY, and other US cities that premiered to great reviews last year. Createasphere/CONNECT events are open to the Createasphere Membership Community, which I urge you to consider joining. It’s a vibrant, growing network where private events, education, discounts and networking help members deepen knowledge and connections. January, 2010 Createasphere/CONNECT kicks off in Los Angeles with “A Journalist Roundtable.” The Roundtable was a hit last spring, and Createasphere/CONNECT will again present the top entertainment tech journalists, who jump on the other side of the interview for this lively evening.
